VPN Configuration

In the MDS portal at jungledisk.mdsmanager.com, under the “Advanced” tab, there is a “Remote Access (VPN)” section; make sure the switch is “ON” in top right corner, then create usernames and passwords. You will use these to later login to the VPN.

Once done, users need to install the VPN client to connect to the VPN. You can get the link from the “Overview” tab; there you will see "REMOTE ACCESS (ENABLED)" and a link underneath. Click that link and also make note of the link since you will need it later (for future reference, the number at the end of the URL is the port number).

You will be taken to a site where you login with the MDS user credentials (previously created in the Advanced tab), which then redirects to a site where you download the VPN client.

Users will then install the VPN client, called FortiClient:

FortiClient Installation on Windows

Once installed, you will be able to add a VPN connection. Click on "Settings" to add a new connection.

You will be taken to a new window; click "New Connection".

Here you will enter your VPN information in the "New Connection Settings Window". Follow these guidelines:

Connection Name: Any name you choose to differentiate between more than one VPN (required field)
Description: Can be any descriptor (optional field)
Server Address: Enter the full URL, EXCEPT for the "https://", from the MDS portal (the link you clicked to get the VPN client download), including the port number
Server certificate checkbox: Leave this unchecked
User Name: This is the user name you created at the beginning of this guide under the Advanced tab
Password: This is the password associated with that user.
Client Certificate: Leave this blank

Once done, click "Ok", which take you back to the FortiClient SSLVPN Settings window. Click "Ok" on that window as well, and you will be taken back to the main FortiClient SSLVPN window. From there, click "Connect". You should now be connected via VPN.

FortiClient Installation on Mac

You will first go through several setup screens, including license agreement and selecting the install destination.

MAKE SURE YOU CLICK "CUSTOMIZE" and UNCHECK THE "OTHER COMPONENTS" BOX

Once installed, open the client. On the Mac it will be in menu bar in the top right. Once open, click on the "Remote Access" tab, then on the gear to "Add a new connection".

You'll then be taken to a screen to add a connection. Follow these guidelines:

VPN Type: Leave as SSL VPN
Connection Name: Any name you choose to differentiate between more than one VPN (required field)
Description: Can be any descriptor (optional field)
Remote Gateway: Enter the URL from the MDS portal (the link you clicked to get the VPN client download), but remove the port number (the colon and all numbers after it)
Customize Port checkbox: Enable this option and enter the port number here
Client Certificate: Keep as "None"
Authentication checkbox: You can choose to uncheck this if you want
Username: This is the username you created at the beginning of this guide under the Advanced tab

Once done, click “Add”. You’ll then be prompted for the MDS user password; enter it, and hit “Connect”. You should now be connected via VPN.

Note: The installation includes an uninstaller to uninstall FortiClient if you need to remove it from your computer. It's located in your Applications folder and is listed as "FortiClientUninstaller".
