Using Markdown in the Community

When creating a question/idea or replying to an existing one in our Community section, you may notice that there is not a formatting bar in the posting section.

Instead of a formatting bar, this site uses something called Markdown, which was created by John Gruber. If interested, you can find general information about Markdown on This Page.

With Markdown, you'll be able to create various html-based elements with scripting. Here are some examples:

Headers

# Header 1

## Header 2

### Header 3

#### Header 4

##### Header 5
###### Header 6

 

Unordered List

* first item

* second item

* third item

Becomes...

  • first item
  • second item
  • third item

 

Ordered List

1. first number

* second number, no problem switching to an asterisk since Markdown already understands that this should be an ordered (not unordered) list due to the first line.

- third number, I can use a hyphen also

Becomes...

  1. first number
  2. second number, no problem switching to an asterisk since Markdown already understands that this should be an ordered (not unordered) list due to the first line.

Italics

Using *emphasis* in a sentence.

Becomes...

Using emphasis in a sentence.

 

Bold

Using **bold** in a sentence.

Code Block

  even if my spacing is strange.

It also ignores Markdown ### Processing
