Configuration : Application Settings

Support November 12, 2009

PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE OPTIONS MAY NOT BE VISIBLE UNLESS THE "SHOW ADVANCED OPTIONS" FEATURE IS ENABLED IN THE LOWER LEFT SECTION OF THE CONFIGURATION.

The application settings section of the Jungle Disk Workgroup Edition apply to the entire application, across all online disks and backup jobs.

  • Prompt for Password: This option will allow you to control access to the Jungle Disk application and its configuration.

    • "None: No password prompts": Jungle Disk will never prompt you for your password, and will run the WebDAV server and (where supported) mount Network Drives on service startup.

    • "Low: Open Configuration": Jungle Disk will require your password in order to open the Configuration dialog. The entire configuration is encrypted using your password and a machine-specific key, meaning that in order to use this configuration on another machine the password will be required.

    • "Medium: Monitor Startup": Jungle Disk will require your password in order to start the Monitor application. Like the "Low" setting the configuration file is encrypted with the password and machine key. The WebDAV and Network Drives are only available when the Monitor application is running.

    • "High: Service Startup": At its highest security setting Jungle Disk will require your password before the service can start up. In this configuration only the password is used to encrypt the configuration, and like "Medium" the WebDAV and Network Drives are only available when the Monitor application is running. Note that automatic backups will not run until the service has been given the password. As such, we recommend starting the Monitor application on startup so that the service can be started.

** Please note, with Password Protection settings of LOW and higher, this will encrypt the configuration file completely.  This is done using both your account password and a machine specific generated password as well.

This functionality first renders the entire XML file unreadable directly. Additionally, if the configuration file is moved to another computer, the software would prompt for the password prior to launching Jungle Disk Desktop Edition.

  • Keep Activity Log: Sets the length of time the activity log is kept (Disabled, 7 days, 30 days, 1 year, forever).

  • Cache Directory: Selects the path where recently accessed files can be stored for faster file access.

  • Remove Configuration: This option clears the configuration to allow you to initiate the first time setup wizard.

  • Check for Updates Automatically: When checked, the software will check for software updates.
